Part 1
The Tortilla Curtain
Reading about America's first day reminded me of when I worked at a daycare in El Centro where not only did I go to get experience working with kids but the whole time I was there I would be cleaning away. Keep in mind this was for a class and I was supposed to be doing lesson plans with the kids, instead I was cleaning toys and cutting papers in the office, without getting paid. America worked for more than six hours which made her happy due to the more money she was making for cleaning statues made of stone. This service she is doing is because she had to convince Jim to take her as a worker, for it to end in him owing her money for all the extra work she did. If i was in her position, I too would feel cheated of money.
